NAXOS
Say cheese in Naxos (we mean it)
When rugged allure and golden sunsets meld to perfection you can expect a quiet Cycladic island like Naxos to come with quietude and certain boho vibes. But Naxos packs quite the cultural punch, owing to its Byzantine history and fortified Venetian mansions, marble quarries, lush vineyards, incredible foodie temptations and ... cheese. There are over thirty official varieties of cheese produced in Naxos six out of which are sure to indulge the foodies in an endless discovery quest -not to mention create the most elaborate charcuterie cheese boards on an event's menu - while culinary adventures are a given. According to Greek mythology, Dionysus, the god of wine, blessed the island of Naxos with fertility. The island’s landscape yields a hearty abundance that informs its hyper-local cuisine with a harvest of meats, fresh produce, honey, spices, and Kitron, a local spirit made from the leaves and fruit of the citron tree. Naxian on The Beach with its luxury suites right off the waterfront, is an exclusive adults-only haven that skirts Plaka Beach. Decision making for the day peaks at seaside sun loungers or alfresco spa tub. At Naxian on the Beach a good seat at the hotel bar (positioned by the shoreline) is as sought after as the mod-Greek restaurant, Tortuga. Long wooden tables clouded over with wicker-shaded pendant lights take a central position, and are best piled with seasonal Greek salads, tuna ceviche tacos and olive-oil-drizzled baklava to finish.
